Why Should You Make Fathers Day Chocolate Covered Strawberries?

Father’s Day is just around the corner, and it may seem like you can’t buy a  gift for your dad that he doesn’t already have. But there are ways to make this Father’s Day extra special. Here are some ideas on how to do that. Father’s day chocolate-covered strawberries are the perfect way to show your dad how much you love him! And they’re surprisingly easy to make too- even if you’ve never cooked before in your life! It takes about 20 minutes total time, with about 5 minutes of cooking time in the end. You can also buy an edible-gifts-for-him.

The best part is that they can be made ahead of time, so it looks like you spent all day making your dad’s favorite dessert. Here is what you need to make Father’s Day chocolate-covered strawberries. 1 pound fresh strawberries, washed and dried, 1/2 cup white chocolate chips, 1/4 cup Milk chocolate chips 1 teaspoon Oil or shortening, 6 ounces Dark chocolate chips or bar. You first need to melt the white chocolate chips with a tablespoon or two of shortening.

You can use oil, but it makes the strawberries more difficult to dry, and they probably won’t last as long. Use a double boiler to melt the chips slowly- you can also use a microwave for this step if you prefer. Once the chocolate is melted, pour it into a small bowl and dip each strawberry halfway into the chocolate. It is easiest to do this by placing the tip of one berry in the chocolate first, then dipping that side all at once. Then place the berry on wax paper or foil, with the stem facing down, so it doesn’t burn.

Once all of your chocolate-covered strawberries are dipped, put them into the fridge or freezer for about 10 minutes to let the chocolate harden. Mix together the milk chocolate chips and oil or shortening in a double boiler as you did with the white chocolate chips. Once they are melted together, use a spoon (or place it in a plastic bag) to drizzle the milk chocolate over the white chocolate.

If you want a thicker coating, repeat that step with the second layer of milk chocolate and white chocolate. Place all of your dipped strawberries back in the fridge or freezer for another 10 minutes to let the chocolate harden again. If you like dark chocolate, melt 6 ounces of chips or bar with 1 teaspoon of shortening or oil in a double boiler.

Once melted, place the bowl of chocolate into another bowl filled with ice water to make the chocolate harden quickly. Then use a spoon or plastic bag again to drizzle over the milk chocolate coating on each strawberry. Put them back in the fridge for 10 minutes, then enjoy!
